MY COAL MINER’S HAT

My coal miner’s hat is a symbol of the everyday way of life of the laboring class people. My every thought, my every action has been shaped and molded by the laboring class people; this is who I am, this is what I am. If elected to the U.S. Senate, I, Vic Roberts, can and will best represent the laboring class people because I am one too. When I represent the laboring class people I represent my family, my friends, my neighbors, as well as myself.

During a term in office each US Senator will cast hundreds of votes concerning a multitude of issues affecting your life; therefore, who can and will best represent your interests in the US Senate is a very important question to you. I believe the answer to that question lies in what my coal miner’s hat represents.

My hat represents those among us who have worked long hours for very low pay from an abusive employer. In my youth, I worked from sun up to sundown as a farm laborer for $3.00 a day (room and board included) for an employer who was a work fiend, as long a I was doing the work, while he supervised or napped. The very day I quit the job, because of the employer’s abusive work demands, I became a member my brothers’ hay hauling crew, earning over $20.00 a day on occasion.

My hat represents those among us who have walked foreign shores in the service of our country.

My hat represents those among us who have experienced the disappointment and heartache of finding no job prospects with a family depending on us to provide them with the necessities of life.

My hat represents those among us who know the hardships brought on in our lives by
prolonged labor strikes; prolonged due to the unwillingness of our employer’s to equitably share the profits provided by our labor.

My hat represents those among us who know hardships in our lives created when, through no fault of our own, we lose our job.

My hat represents those among us who know hardships in our lives brought on by physical disability during our laboring years.

My hat represents those among us who know the value of good health care insurance coverage because we could not afford it when we needed it most.

My hat represents those among us who know the value of having a dependable retirement income through Social Security benefits.

Indeed, my coal miner’s hat is a symbol that represents the everyday way of life of the laboring class people, and it is a symbol that I, Vic Roberts, wear with great pride.

Your campaign contribution to Vic Roberts for the US Senate is an investment toward representation for the common good of our citizens and the general welfare of our great nation.
