2005 Congressional Campaign Press Conference
April 12, 2005

Fellow Citizens, I am Vic Roberts an old retired coal miner from Christian County, and I am seeking the Democratic Party's nomination for Congress in the IL 19th Congressional District for the 2006 election. While campaigning for public office, I wear my coal miner's hat as a symbol of the everyday way of life of the laboring class people; my every thought, my every action, has been shaped and molded by the laboring class people; this is who I am, this is what I am.  To be sure, if elected to Congress, I, Vic Roberts, can and will best represent the interests of the laboring class people because I am one too. When I represent the laboring class people I represent my family, my friends, my neighbors, as well as myself.  Indeed, my coal miner's hat is a symbol that I, Vic Roberts, wear with great pride.

Fellow Citizens, we have been told repeatedly by the Republican Bush Administration that there is a looming major crisis for our worker funded Social Security Program, and that privatization through a cartel of Wall Street bankers is their solution for averting the great looming Social Security crisis.  However, reputable sources provide evidence that the Republican Bush Administration's Social Security privatization scheme would not strengthen the Social Security system but actually weaken it while costing us taxpayers an estimated 2 trillion dollars in additional national debt.  The Republican Bush Administration has been calling for a sizable portion of our worker funded Social Security Trust Fund to be turned over to a select few of their Wall Street banker cartel crony cohorts to be used for gambling in the stock market.  The Republican Bush Administration is making the claim that each contributor into the Social Security Trust Fund has a right to personally manage a portion of the money they contribute because that is their personal investment.

I believe the Republican Bush Administration is trying to deceive us of the struggling masses into believing that the Social Security Program was created to be an investment scheme, or perhaps more accurately they are trying to turn Social Security into that which it is not, and was not intended to be, a Wall Street investment scam.  The Social Security Program was created to be an old age, survivor and disability insurance program which was created to give us seniors, and those with disabilities, a financial safety net.  For close to 3Ž4 of a century the Democratic Party's created worker funded Social Security insurance program has proven that it is a well designed creation that needs little more than occasional strengthening adjustments to continue being a good and faithful servant to the American laboring class people for another 3Ž4 of a century, or more.

I believe the Republican Party's move toward a Wall Street privatization scam of the Social Security program is a diabolical scheme to give control of our worker funded Social Security Trust Fund to a financial mafia cabal of Republican Party crony Wall Street bankers; indeed, a privatization scheme designed to have workers providing huge guaranteed profits to elite Wall Street bankers while providing no guarantees for the laboring class people's Social Security stock market investments.

Fellow Citizens, those of you who are knowledgeable about the political mechanics in the 19th Congressional District know that, because of gerrymandering, the cards have been stacked very deeply in favor of incumbent Republican Congressman Shimkus being reelected.  Therefore, it would be a very fair question for you to ask me: "Why then is the old retired coal miner seeking the Democratic Party's nomination for Congress while knowing that he is likely to be defeated in the general election?  The answer to that question is: I have some very strong beliefs concerning political issues that Republican Congressman Shimkus is not addressing to my satisfaction; therefore, my candidacy is about challenging him in the political arena with issues that I believe are extremely important to us constituents.  Among the many are the issues of Privatization of Social Security, the Federal Reserve Bank System, and the New World Order, which, win or lose the election, are issues that I intend to try to put into the spotlight of the 19th Congressional District political arena.

Fellow Citizens, concerning the issue of the Federal Reserve Bank System, I believe we constituents have the right to question why Republican Congressman Shimkus, and his Washington, D.C. cohorts, are permitting our nation's monetary system  to be controlled by the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank System.  Indeed, it is not only our right but our duty to question why private bankers are controlling our nation's monetary system when our Constitution of the United States mandates that the U.S. Congress "coin our nation's money and regulate the value thereof."   I believe we constituents have a right and duty to question where Republican Congressman Shimkus stands on House Bill H.R. 2778, which is the Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act.  H.R. 2778 is a bill to abolish the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Bank System and the Federal Reserve banks, and also to repeal the Federal Reserve Act.  Although H.R. 2778 is a Republican created bill, if elected to Congress, I, Democratic Congressman Vic Roberts will work diligently for the passage of that legislation.

Another issue that I will attempt to put into the spotlight in the 19th Congressional District political arena is: Who owns, for their own personal profit, power, and pleasure, the controlling interest of the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank System that, in defiance of our nation's Constitution, is controlling our nation's monetary system?  Based on a considerable amount of information accumulated over the years I have come to believe that the controlling interest of the Federal Reserve Bank System is in the hands of a few elite Wall Street bankers, global financiers, and multinational industrialists, who have organized their immense wealth into a global financial mafia commonly called the New World Order, whose so called "global democracy" policies are designed to achieve their planned One World Government.  For more information regarding my views on political issues, please visit my web site at www.vicroberts.net.

Fellow Citizens, I believe the following words encompass and personify my political ideology very well:  I, Vic Roberts, am a candidate who believes as a great statesman once said: "If this government of the people, by the people, and for the people will abide in the spirit of the words "right makes might" this government shall not perish from the earth." I believe as President Kennedy when he said: "With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking his blessing and his help, but knowing that here on earth truly God's work must be our own; the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing."   Fellow Citizens, I, Vic Roberts, am a candidate who does not intend to do nothing. And I am a candidate who will deeply and sincerely appreciate your support of my candidacy for Congress. In the words of a great lady, Mother Jones: "Let us pray for the dead but fight like hell for the living."  I thank you.
